Shenanigans

1 Carlton Pl, Southampton SO15 2DZ, United Kingdom
What We Offer:
The Dobblers Inn, formerly The City Arms, was taken over by CAMRA Investments in 1982 and renamed in 1984. We believe the name is taken from an old local area called ‘Dobblers Hole’ which is located roughly in the Beehive / St Matthews Gardens area just behind Sturton Street. We like to think that a modern day dobbler has grown to mean someone who is friendly, loud and outgoing, who thrives on community life whilst socialising in a relaxed environment. You will certainly still find some ‘colourful, eccentric and unusual characters’ frequenting this drinking hole.
SPECIALITY:

Enjoy spirits and cocktails expertly complemented by a simple, elegant food menu. Join us for a cosy table for two, a celebratory drink at the bar, or a special, fully catered function.

Lovely staff, great beer. Not visited much in recent years, so they wouldn’t know me. But I went to watch the football and they offered to put the volume on my nearest screen, generally looked after me well. The only downside was a fly or two that kept trying to swim in my ‘Paltrow’. But it was still summer, so I should give some leeway.
VERY helpful and polite staff. Small, but atmospheric, live football, great decor. Only downside was the price of a teeny weeny GF beer. But will go again for the very reasonably priced vodka.
Great little Irish bar with helpful, friendly staff and a great vibe. Good, decent and very fair doorstaff, who are clearly very experienced and accustomed to the occasional overexcited customer, especially on special occasions or football nights. Worth a visit.

Good place on a match day. Shows the football if any on TV, atmosphere is good. Only reason not a 5 and it’s not the bars fault. I just prefer my drink not in a plastic glass.
Meeting place for pre and post match drinks. So full, the crowd spills into the road.
My first time here before a home game. Full of away Coventry fans but was a great atmosphere. Staff worked very hard to serve everyone in a packed pub.

We wish we stayed longer, we will be back. This is a small hotel with a fabulous pub downstairs. The rooms have a separate entrance next to the pub. The Grapes is in an area of restaurants and pubs without traffic on the street. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful, thanks to Kayla, Aiden and Justine. We wish we knew it was so nice and we would have skipped London. The pub also has great history.
The hotel itself is a bit tired but very nice. It’s located over the pub, so expect that it will be noisy until 22. But I need to state that during the night it was very quiet. In the room I stayed there was no sound proof from the street at all.
One of the few ‘proper’ pubs left that end of town. The landlord even has takeaway menus available from other food joints in Oxford so he helps support them, whilst you can have a bit to eat whilst still in the boozer! Rooms upstairs are very clean and comfortable and have everything you need for a comfortable overnight stay. Good local crowd roo.
