Sakura was established in 2009 as the first Japanese restaurant in Portsmouth. Since our opening night we have always strived to bring the taste of true Japanese cuisine to our customers, while adding friendly service, knowledge and a lot of enthusiasm for what we do. We have retained a lot of the features from the Portsmouth branch to our Southampton restaurant that has made us so popular. These include tasty food that comes in a great variety, and fast, reliable service. Absolutely loved it here. Felt very authentic (never been to Japan so I can only imagine). Ramen was really tasty, the set was really nice with the beef and the sushi is up there with the best I’ve had. Very quick service and all very friendly. Pretty good value but there was lots on the menu we wanted so ended up spending a lot. Easily done here if you are hungry…. one complaint was the Coke was flat. Small worry though in comparison to everything else. Really lovely and will return.
Lovely meal and Sakura! First time eating there and having sushi! Would recommend to everyone! Only gripe was kinda being pushed out once bill was paid. We were talking and finishing drinks but was told people are waiting for a table.
I’m pleasantly surprised about this Sakura place considering its in student zone. The food was so fresh hot and tasty, cooked fish was soft and tender much better than getting a greasy chippy!! Pickled ginger slices on point Service was excellent 20% off on a Saturday.

I love the staff that work here. They are so amazing, polite, patient and friendly. We had a very nice dinner. I love the pronoun badges which make it really easy to use proper pronouns with people. There tends to be a large queue so book ahead. Or just wait it out because quite often they just want to look busy and there are actually a lot of spaces.
Food was lovely with plenty of veggie or vegan options. My 10 year old daughter enjoyed the kids size portion of chicken and noodles that we ordered it twice more! The waitress was very friendly, polite and efficient. Would go again.
Me and my daughter go here for lunch when our days off are the same which gives us some catch up time together. The food is always so lovely its difficult to choose what to eat this time i had one of thier curry dishes.

Part of that was the ‘kaiten’ conveyor belt and colour-coded dishes which made our name. We still believe in eating in colour. Great staff and great food. This was our first time trying yo sushi, the service speed is insane, they have a conveyer belt set up that brings the food direct to your table. There are plenty of staff in the kitchen and on cleanup, they are easily reachable if you need assistance.
My and my freind got a sharer platter 2 drinks a sushi roll and mochi and the total came to about £44 but although the price its was an amazing place with some amazing service would recommend.
Great first time experience and which was complemented by Rosa who gave us great service. Really good menu choice and both the food quality and portion sizes were spot on. Will undoubtedly return on our next trip to Southampton.
